Remote control codes - should I hack it?

Hello, I am new to this forum. My son just got another Geotrax (now the airplane) and I was wondering if somebody already did a controller that can handle all the codes. I was planning to create a generic controller that can control all the devices, but there may be one out there or somebody may have already hacked it. Any news about that? Thanks! Santiago

I would think that any learning remote could do this such as a Logitech Harmony remote. The Harmony can record any raw IR signal so I don't see why it wouldn't.

Hi Peter,

I am not sure that the Geotrax use the same type of coding as standard remote controls (like 38KHz or 41 KHz modulated signals). I will check my son's with an oscilloscope and see what comes out. If it isn't anything that can be mimicked by a learning remote controller, do you think that there may be interest in building such a device that can talk to other/multiple geotrax? Or even to control them via a computer or PDA (or iPhone). Any other ideas?... Thanks!

The Harmony remotes record raw signals. I'm fairly certain that they can record non standard signals. I'll have to try it when I get the chance.

I would very much like to know the codes. I want to make a train bumper (the track end) that when the train is close enough broadcasts all of the stop codes so any train will stop automatically.

If I know the wave form, I should be able to create it with a programmable chip.
