New to the Geo Trax system. Justed purchsed Timber Town Railway set for Chrismas. When motored train is coming down mountain it de-rails about every thrid time.
Also purchased the crosssing gate and also de-rails half the time when coming down the last leg. Appears the battery part of the train is the culparit. Thinking of returning.

I just returned it as well. It really upset me at how cheaply constructed it was.

Now our expereince was just the opposite - we have not had any derailments (unless son puts something on the track LOL) and even my 7 yr has walked on teh track and it has not broken.
We LOVE this track and it is taking quite a beating from both 2 1/2 yr old and 7 yr old. Can't wait to get more to add to it!!!!

Other than the cheap construction (which seems to be a new trend in the line), how is it otherwise? I like the over and under piece shown. Is the "easy track" thing any good?

the timbertown loco does derail somewhat more easily than others due to the way the drive is actually in the tender and the loco is pushed out front. Its ok if you dont try to pull long trains (notice they only gave one car in the set hmm..) and be careful with turnouts/curves right at the bottom of a hill (hit or miss what causes a problem)
That said i like it because it looks nice. The 'easy track' thing is worthless to us, my three year old can put the trains on wherever he wants. Makes a rumble noise going over it, almost like its going to derail the train...

I guess it's actually the cheap construction that bothers me. My son is almost 2 & has been playing w/ the GeoTrax for 6 months now. The easy track is great for lining up the trains since he does have problem doing that.
Since I acquired most of our GeoTrax through CraigsList, I have all of the older pieces (Lights & Sounds, Elevation, GeoMotion, etc). The new pieces just seem to be "not as cool" as pieces like the Clock Tower or Sawmill or Rainbow Bridge.

We only opened the product last night, but my kids (2 & almost 5)are having a BLAST with no issues so far. No derailments problems. We have the airport set with a bridge whose track we can finally use thanks to the ramps included in this timbertown set. We just put the bridge next to the tunnel of this set and it all works out. Unless something goes horribly wrong, we'll be keeping it and enjoying it!
